What Is Wallpaper Pattern Repeat and Why Does It Matter?

Pattern repeat is the recurring part of a wallpaper design that must align from one strip to the next. It changes how each strip is cut: a piece can be long enough to cover the wall but still need extra length to match the motif.

Read the roll marking

The label normally gives the repeat size and the way adjacent strips are matched. Check the design direction, any offset or drop match and the roll length before cutting. Keep the label if the symbols are unclear so the collection can be checked later.

How repeat changes the cut plan

• Strips are cut for the repeat, not only for the wall height.
• A leftover from one strip may not line up with the next row.
• Corners, openings and niches need their own layout decisions.
• The more demanding the match, the more valuable a reserve from one batch becomes.

Include repeat in the estimate
