Choose wallpaper adhesive by the strip material and weight, its backing, the substrate and the manufacturer’s instructions. Different wallpapers can require different application surfaces, soaking behaviour and paste coverage. “Universal” on a packet is not a substitute for checking the collection details.

• Wallpaper type and structure: paper, non-woven, vinyl or another construction.
• Weight, texture and pattern repeat of the strip.
• Wall substrate: plaster, filler, drywall or an existing coating.
• Whether the product is applied to the strip, the wall or both.
• Room conditions and any limits for humidity or ventilation.

Application method matters

Some wallpapers are pasted on the strip, others on the wall, and some require a stated soaking time. Do not transfer the method for light paper wallpaper to a heavy or textured product, and do not change the water ratio from memory.

The wall still controls the result

Dust, gloss, moisture and high absorption change how paste works. Primer and levelling may make absorption more even when the system calls for them, but they do not replace choosing a compatible adhesive.
