Calculation formula
Net area = wall area − opening area. For a half-brick wall: bricks = ceil(net area ÷ ((brick length + joint) × (brick height + joint))). Thicker masonry uses wall volume and the brick module volume including the joint.
Example: A 5 × 2.7 m wall without openings, using 25 × 6.5 cm bricks and a 10 mm joint in a half-brick wall, needs about 693 bricks before allowance. The layout can change the final count.
Frequently asked questions
Why does masonry thickness affect the count?
In a half-brick wall, bricks cover the face area. In thicker masonry, the volume increases, so the calculator uses the selected thickness instead of dividing only by the visible brick face.
Should I include breakage and special bricks?
Yes. Set an allowance, then keep extra room for corners, lintels, bonding patterns, cutting and breakage after checking the layout.
